Magic Valley Basketball Club rebranded to Mountain West Basketball Academy amid new goals in the program
The goal behind this rebranding was to unify athletes from across Idaho and into the surrounding states.
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — A premier AAU basketball club in the area has undergone some changes to help improve the program’s growth and overall goals.
The Magic Valley Basketball Club has been renamed the Mountain West Basketball Academy.
The goal behind this rebranding was to unify athletes from across Idaho and into the surrounding states.
There are incredible kids who are looking for that opportunity to highlight their talents.
The program also wanted to have an academy feel and focus on more in-depth training for each athlete.
“There’s a lot of need in Idaho and upper Utah where they need more clubs, so we’re kind of balancing the area and giving more opportunity,” Boys Program Director Tony Standlee said. The academy side was for more training opportunities, so we brought in many new coaches, past college players, and professional players. We just wanted to encompass it all in one thing.”
The Mountain West Basketball Academy will focus more on exposure for the athletes.
Not only will they be trained by quality coaches around the area, but they can also compete against JUCO teams, where they can get noticed by the coaches and go against good talent.
MWBA will also compete at large showcases around the country.
“One of the big things about club basketball now is exposure. Everyone wants to get exposure for their kids, get better, and be able to be seen by colleges,” Standlee said. “We’ve been traveling to Utah a lot, but we’ll go to Las Vegas a little bit more, go to California, and our bigger teams will go to Arizona.”
Tryouts for girls will be held the week of February 24th, and for boys, it will be the week of March 10th.
