HAGERMAN, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — The Hagerman Pirates upset defending state champions Butte County on Friday night, thanks in large to their junior quarterback.

Wyatt Mavencamp is the Week 9 Friday Night Blitz Player of the Week after helping to lead Hagerman to a 30-14 win and handing Butte County its first loss of the season.

Mavencamp threw for 178 yards and three scores, including a 72-yard touchdown pass to Ky Kendall.

He also rushed for 51 yards, and Hagerman improved to 7-1 and established itself as one of the best teams in 2A.

Through eight games, Mavencamp has thrown 34 touchdowns with only four interceptions, while also rushing for three scores.

On the defensive side, he has three interceptions and a forced fumble to go along with 31 tackles.

“I love the kid. He’s a hard-nosed quarterback and is also a middle linebacker. He’s a great leader and a hard worker who put in a ton of time this summer,” head coach Bill Hicks told KMVT. “He is smart and has developed into a true quarterback who looks to throw when he scrambles rather than just tucking and running.”

Hagerman’s lone loss of the season was in conference against Valley, a team the Pirates would like to see again in the playoffs.

The Pirates close the regular season on Friday when they travel to take on Raft River.
