JEROME, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — The man whom police believe caused a deadly crash last week in Jerome County appeared in court on Tuesday.

Zhou Ping, a 36-year-old man from Boise, is charged with felony vehicular manslaughter for Friday’s crash at the intersection of Idaho Route 25 and U.S. Highway 93, according to court documents.

Ping ignored the warning traffic control devices, did not stop at the stop sign, and caused a chain reaction crash, according to trooper Caleb Thompson in the affidavit.

The driver of the black 2008 Honda Civic died at the scene, according to Idaho State Police. The intersection between U.S. Highway 93 and Idaho Route 25 was blocked for approximately five hours.

Following today’s arraignment, Ping has a preliminary hearing slated for Sept. 12 in front of Judge Stacey DePew, according to court documents.
