TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Governor Brad Little and local firefighters are taking extra steps to help raise awareness about safety. the governor has declared this week as “Community Risk Reduction Week”.

Fire Departments across the state are visiting schools, installing smoke alarms, inspecting buildings for hazards, and more-- all to help improve safety. The proclamation also aims to remind and encourage people to work together to improve Idaho communities by using five key strategies, also known as the “Five E’s.”

“So, the Five E’s of CRR are education, engineering, enforcement, emergency response and economic incentives,” says Twin Falls Fire Marshal Gabriel Hammett. “Through those Five E’s, we break that out into various roles, we find community partners, we educate the community, and we all work together-- fire operations, fire prevention, and the community come together to really just make us safer.”

According to the U.S. Fire Administration, more than 150 people have died in house fires so far this year. CRR Week is a way to prevent fires ahead of time and lower the impact to 9-1-1 responders.
