Tax season is almost here; here’s what you need to know
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Tax season is just a week away, and there is now a free resource that some Idaho taxpayers can use to file their returns. According to the IRS, the “direct file” program guides taxpayers through a series of questions to prepare their federal tax returns.
The IRS adds that it may be a good option for people who lived in Idaho all of 2024 and earned all their income in the state, also couples who aren’t using the filing status “married filing separately.”
After completing a federal tax return, the “direct file” system will guide taxpayers to the tools to complete state tax filings. Local experts advise you not to wait until the last minute to get your taxes done.
“The worst thing you can do as a taxpayer is think, ‘Oh, I can wait until the end to file my taxes,’” said Derek Barnes, the owner of the Twin Falls' Liberty Tax & Loans location. “You make sure you’re getting your deductions, you’re getting your credits and you have a peace of mind that your taxes were filed accurately and correctly.”
Taxpayers must file their taxes by April 15.
