Twin Falls Public Library hosts grand opening for story walk at local park
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Do not fear for cabin fever, the Twin Falls Public Library has just the solution for you! On Saturday, they held their grand opening of the new permanent story walk at a local park.
“Well it’s not the park thats new it’s our story walk,” says Jennifer Hills with the Twin Falls Public Library.
The Twin Falls Public Library Foundation partnered with the city’s Parks and Recreation Department to install a story walk at Thomsen Park.
“A story walk is these permanent pedestals placed around the park here at Thomsen Park and every month they’ll be replaced with a new story,” says Hills.
According to Hills, the story walk will be themed based on the seasons and for the grand opening, its a winter themed story called The Mitten by Jean Brett.
“So, we were like walking around seeing like these pictures and reading it,” says 7-year-old Viola Gibson.
The bookmobile will also be at the park periodically for people to check out books and DVD’s, and some parents say this new addition to the park is a good way to encourage reading for kids.
“It kind of switches it up from just sitting down and reading a book-- they like to run from each section and it’s kind of fun to see what the next page is going to be, I think it build some anticipation and you’re not just sitting there,” says Josie Gibon. “I think it’s really cool, it keeps my 4-year-old active, who like to run and play.”
The Twin Falls Public Library says the excursion is not just limited to kids, but its open to all who comes to Thomsen Park
“People can bring their families or adults can get a kick out of picture books as well and have something new to read every month,” says Hills.
Thomsen Park is located at 1036 Carriage Lane, Twin Falls, Idaho.
