TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Water talks are continuing, and this past Wednesday night, two took place in Eastern Idaho and Boise.

On Wednesday, groundwater appropriators met in Pocatello, followed by a town hall informational meeting in Idaho Falls.

Lt. Governor Scott Bedke has been an integral part of talks in the past and continues with the current situation.

He says talks have been going well, and there is an understanding of the importance of this issue.

Their goal is to have an improved plan from last time.

“We need some new ideas in a couple of areas, particularly in the area of averaging,” Bedke said. “If we’re going to do private recharge, then how and to what extent are we going to get credit for that? The concept is to put water in the aquifer in the good years so that we’ll have some to take out in the dry, hot years.

Talks will continue next week, and KMVT will follow up on the developments.
