The Idaho Department of Transportation encourages to celebrate the New Year safely
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) —The Idaho Department of Transportation have teamed up with about 50 local law enforcement agencies to keep everyone safe this new years holiday.
In Idaho 38% of traffic fatalities in the state involved impaired drivers, resulting in 105 deaths.
ITD has some tips to keep everyone on the roads safe this holiday season.
If you’re a designated driver, commit to staying alcohol free. Driving buzzed is still considered drunk driving.
Step in if someone plans to drive impaired, take their keys and help them find a safe way home.
Also have a plan if you are going to drink.
“So a lot of the times, if you’re going out and about, there are different agencies around Twin Falls that’ll pick you up like there’s Ride TFT, there’s cabs, there’s taxis, there’s Uber. That means can always find a sober ride home or just, you know, ask a friend to be your DD,” Courtney Wagner, ITD Public Information Officer said.
Also always wear your seatbelt, that will increase your chances of surviving a crash by 50% and can protect others from impaired drivers.
