UPDATE: Pedestrian dies in Downtown Twin Falls accident

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) —

UPDATE: 80-year-old Henry Frank Yepez has been pronounced dead after being struck in downtown Twin Falls on Wednesday.

UPDATE: Preliminary reports claim the driver was an 18-year-old resident of Twin Falls and the pedestrian was an 80-year-old Twin Falls resident. Responders were on the scene quickly to assist and the intersection was temporarily closed for a thorough investigation. The pedestrian was transported to St. Luke’s Magic Valley Center with serious injuries.

A pedestrian in downtown Twin Falls was struck by a vehicle just after 7 a.m. on Wednesday. Police officials said they received a call of a person who had been hit near Second Avenue East and Shoshone Street. The pedestrian was taken to the hospital but the extent of their injuries is unknown.

Second Avenue East was closed from Idaho Street to Shoshone while police were investigating.

“We want to make sure people have their lights on until the sun comes up. We want people to pay attention especially in our downtown area for pedestrians. Make sure you are checking crosswalks. Make sure you are keeping an eye out for anyone who may be walking in the area,” said Detective Sergeant Ryan Howe Twin Falls Police Department.

Howe noted that the driver remained on scene after the collision and is cooperating with authorities.
