TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — If you don’t want to spend your night glued to the TV waiting for the ball to drop in Times Square, there’s something more local to enjoy.

For more than 20 years, the Lamphouse Theater has put on its own ball drop, which even predates the Potato Drop in Boise.

David Woodhead, owner of the Lamphouse Theater, said he and his crew spent Monday morning preparing the ball for the big drop Tuesday evening. This event is very popular among Twin Falls residents.

“It’s become a kind of tradition. In fact, we’ve met people who they don’t just come for this but, you know, they are visiting family over the holidays and they stay so they can see the ball drop,” Woodhead said.

Those wanting to view the ball drop can go down to the Lamphouse Theater before midnight. They will be having other activities including a watch party for the Boise State game followed by a movie showing.
