GRANDJEAN, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Due to rising avalanche hazards, transportation crews plan to close sections of Idaho Route 21 on Friday night.

Crews will close the highway from Grandjean to Banner Summit and Granite Creek to Lowman at 5 p.m., according to the Idaho Transportation Department.

ITD said they do not know when the highway will reopen as it will depend on the upcoming storms. The avalanche danger team will continue to monitor and determine when it is safe to reopen, ITD said.

The department advised drivers to plan accordingly and stay safe amid the rising avalanche hazards over the weekend.
