Small earthquakes follow 4.2 magnitude earthquake in Stanley area

STANLEY, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Two small earthquakes on Tuesday followed a 4.2 magnitude earthquake on Monday in the Stanley area.

An earthquake at 6:25 a.m. on Tuesday registered a magnitude of 3.0 around 10 miles northwest of Stanley, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. This was followed by another small 2.4-magnitude earthquake at 7:20 a.m., approximately 10 miles northeast of Stanley.

The small earthquakes follow a 4.2 magnitude earthquake that struck in the mountains near Stanley on Monday.

Monday’s earthquake began at 9:32 a.m., and its epicenter was located approximately 17 miles northeast of Stanley along the ridge of Bonanza Peak and Bachelor Mountain, according to the USGS. The hypocenter was situated 7 miles beneath the epicenter.

The USGS’s Community Internet Intensity Map reported Weak shaking during Monday’s earthquake as far south as Boise and Hailey.
