Burley firefighters raising money for cancer awareness
BURLEY, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — The Burley Fire Department was at the nearby Smith’s on Saturday to fundraise and fight cancer.
They were out from noon to 4 p.m. gathering money from generous shoppers. At the same time, a firefighter climbed a StairMaster in the back.
A set of Burley firefighters will join thousands in Seattle on March 9 to climb the Columbia Center, the tallest building west of the Mississippi.
Lt. Justin Jensen of the Burley Fire Department talked about why this means so much to them.
“We like to help the community as much as possible,” Jensen said. “Cancer is really close to our hearts because of course as firefighters, we have a chance to get cancer with our job, but then we do this for kids who have leukemia and lymphoma. We are climbing for two kids in our area, and we are going honoring them to climb to the top.”
