Minico Spartans crash Twin Falls’ senior night, hands Bruins first conference loss
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — It was an instant classic Friday night in the Great Basin Conference.
Big game atop the table as the Twin Falls Bruins (12-9, 9-1 GBC) hosted the Minico Spartans (12-9, 9-1).
The last time these two squared off, Twin won on the road 50-49 on Jan. 29.
It was senior night for Twin Falls, honoring Ryker Rex and Cooper Thompson pregame.
Rex got going early with the Bruins’ opening five points.
Minico, however, responded and found success attacking inside with scores from Nate Wayment and Jayden McKenzie.
It was tied at 19 at halftime before both teams began to find its groove.
The game would come down to the final minute as Twin Fall senior Ryker Rex connected from three and pulled the Bruins within a point.
Twin Falls would end up with the final shot but couldn’t connect as the Spartans would hold on to win 46-45.
McKenzie led the way for Minico with 18 points on the road. Nate Wayment added 13.
Rex had 19 for the Bruins, with sophomore Trey Billings adding 12.
With the win for Minico, MaxPreps will determine the No. 1 seed for the Great Basin Tournament between the two teams.

- Kimberly wins on senior night and earns the No. 1 seed in the 4A Sawtooth Central Idaho Conference and host Buhl on Monday.
- Gooding will be the No. 3 seed and travel to take on No. 2 Filer on Monday.
