Dietrich standout Connor Perkins reaches 1,000-point milestone
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — 1,000 points and counting.
It was a special moment for Dietrich senior Connor Perkins for senior night on Wednesday, Feb. 12, being recognized for scoring 1,000 career points.
The moment was everything Perkins imagined. However, it should’ve come multiple games prior.
Dietrich won on senior night over Richfield 72-34, but he actually scored his 1,000th point on Jan. 30th against Raft River, but no one was aware at the time.
“I wish I would’ve known at the moment when it happened, but it’s still a surreal and cool achievement,” Perkins told KMVT. It’s something I’ve always wanted to happen.
Following the Raft River game, Perkins’ mother told him the news, and he was shocked.
“I knew I had to be pretty close to 1,000. Well, turns out I was right,” Perkins joked.
He’s been a starter since his freshman season, so he knew it was a realistic goal. Now, he hopes to inspire and be an example for the younger generation.
“Being recognized, I hope it orchestrates hard work for anyone who wants to achieve their goals,” Perkins said. “My little siblings look up to me, so I hope I can inspire them.”
Perkins and Dietrich will be the top seed in the 1A Sawtooth Tournament.
Even though he’s balling in basketball, Perkins will play football next year with North Dakota State College of Science.
