Hagerman’s Martin Gonzalez etches name in 1,000-point club
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Say hello to Martin Gonzalez, the newest member of the 1,000-point club.
The Hagerman senior eclipsed the milestone Wednesday night in the 78-19 win over Lighthouse Christan, hitting a floater in the second quarter.
“It’s just a huge milestone and another step towards the right goals that we have, and 1,000 points, you’ll be forever solidified,” Gonzalez told KMVT. “Now we’re just looking ahead to the postseason.”
Gonzalez has been a key leader for the Pirates all season long, as Hagerman will enter the 2A Snake River Conference as the No. 3 seed.
“It’s an exciting moment for him, and I’m so proud,” Hagerman head coach Katie Knight said.
Gonzalez joins his close friend and teammate Ky Kendall, who achieved 1,000 career points earlier in the season.
After Kendall eclipsed the milestone, he told Gonzalez he couldn’t be far off.
The two had played basketball with each other for many years and were excited to get it done together.
“I’ve enjoyed having them on the court together and Ky wanted to be in when he scored,” Knight explained. “These two set the standard for our program and for the younger kid to look up to.”
Hagerman now sets its looks to the district tournament and a first round game against No. 6 Murtaugh.
Tip-off from Oakley High School for that game is set for 6:00 on Feb. 17.
