TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — The Dietrich Lady Blue Devils are inevitable.

Dietrich three-peat as 1A Sawtooth Champions after beating No. 1 Carey 40-22.

The Blue Devils stamped its ticket to the 1A State Tournament at Nampa High School from Feb. 20-22.

Dietrich entered the contest as two-time defending champions and were state runners-up the previous two seasons.

The two teams split the regular season series at one each, but Monday night was all Dietrich.

The Blue Devils opened the game on a 10-2 run.

Carey couldn’t buy a shot, not converting a field goal until under a minute left in the first quarter.

Dietrich picked up where they left off and built a 20-6 lead in the second quarter with big shots from senior Aleigha Robertson and Paje VanTassell.

The Blue Devils would continue to play team basketball and win 40-22 over the Panthers.

“We’ve put in a lot of time. We worked the whole season for this moment,” Robertson told KMVT. “Like Charley (Charley Bingham, Dietrich’s Head Coach) said, we had a game plan and stuck with it.”

Bingham emphasized playing for each other on the court.

“Coach (Bingham) sat us down and told us we had to play for a why,” VanTassel explained to KMVT. “We all thought of our own way and our motivations and went out and played for each other.”

Robertson and VanTassell led the Blue Devils offensively with 16 and 13 points, respectively. Lily Hanson added six points and led the team with eight rebounds.

Carey will play Richfield on Wednesday. The winner advances to a state play-in game.
