GOODING, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) —John August Acha, 50, a resident of Gooding, Idaho passed away on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, while surrounded by family at St. Lukes hospital in Twin Falls, Idaho.
John was born on December 26, 1973, in Gooding, Idaho, the son of Felix and Ruth Acha who raised and educated him in Gooding. Following high school, John joined the United States Air Force. John served the United States Air Force and NATO as a Contracting Officer and Administrator from 1992 until honorably discharged in 1999, stationed in Germany and Japan. While John received numerous accolades during his service, his source of pride was in furthering his education while serving. John obtained his Associate’s Degree in Contract Law, Management & Administration from the Community College of the Air Force followed by his Associate’s Degree and Bachelor’s Degree in Management from the University of Maryland.
John married Jennifer Jacobson on May 20, 2000 in Gooding Idaho. They relocated shortly after to the Western Slope of Colorado, residing in Rifle and New Castle. They welcomed their son, Mason, in 2006. John operated his business Action Estimating from 2001 until 2024. Additionally, he built homes in Colorado under Acha-Weimann Builders. Ready for the next stage of life, John had just relocated back to his hometown in October.
John was a man with a heart of gold who believed in integrity, a strong work ethic and commitment to community service. Beyond business hours, he volunteered countless hours in orphanages in Europe, as a children’s coach for several recreation districts both in the US and abroad and was a Cub Scout Den leader for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Acha of Gooding, Idaho; his son Mason Acha (Bianca) of Rifle, Colorado; his grandson Rafael Acha Muniz of Rifle, Colorado; brothers-Donald Acha of Gooding and Chris Acha of Boise; many nieces and nephews, and numerous members of his extended family in the US and Spain.
Preceded in death by both his parents-Ruth and Felix Acha; brother-Felix Acha Jr; and grandparents from both the Acha and Marquardt sides.
It was John’s wish to be cremated without a formal funeral service. Cremation arrangements are under the care and direction of Demaray Funeral Service-Gooding Chapel. The family will grieve privately and in honor of his memory a celebration of his life will occur at a later date.
John’s family would like to thank the first responders of Gooding and the staff of North Canyon Medical Center and St. Luke’s Magic Valley Medical Center for the care and compassion they showed John and his family while in their care.
