Blauer, Matthew Joseph
November 20, 2024, Age 44

DECLO, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) —Matthew Joseph Blauer, age 44, passed away with his loving wife by his side on November 20, 2024, at St Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Twin Falls. He was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Matt was born August 19, 1980, in Burley, Idaho, the son of Duane and Amy (Hamblen) Blauer. Matt grew up in Declo, Idaho. In his youth, Matt spent his summers playing baseball, with his dad as the coach, exploring the ravines and mountains around the house, and swimming in the canal. He loved making ninja stars and playing at the cliffs by the canal with his friends. Teasing his sisters was a favorite pastime of his, along with chasing them upstairs.
Matt worked at the Mayfair and Celler throughout high school, and then was the manager and bookkeeper until it closed in 2018. He loved finding the perfect suit for his clientele. He also enjoyed watching his nephews and niece grow up at the store and was always happy to sit down for a bit to play with them. He would take time off each harvest season to help his dad dig beats and plant grain. After the store closed, Matt decided to work with his dad on the farm, where he was meticulous and thorough.
In November of 2000, Matt met his wife, Cheyann, on a blind date at Perkins. Three months later, Matt proposed to Chey on the mountain behind his childhood home, and they were married in August of 2001. They have been together for 23 years. Matt took on the big role of being a father to a six-month-old, Ty, and it was no surprise that he thrived at this because of his big, caring heart and love of children. Wherever Ty went, Matt was there to make sure he was safe and taken care of.
Matt loved to read, watch movies, and bowl. Matt was an avid reader. He enjoyed fantasy/science fiction books the most, and he loved how books could whisk you away into another world. This love of reading helped develop Matt’s writing skills. He could whip up a fabulous story, biography, or any other type of writing needed in no time. He enjoyed going to Vegas for bowling tournaments. If Matt wasn’t bowling and hanging with his bowling friends, he was sitting at the slot machines- and he was quite lucky.
Matt is survived by his loving wife, Cheyann; his son, Tyries; his mother, Amy; his siblings, Sarah (Cody) Somsen, and Emily (Patrick) Misner; father and mother-in-law, Ken and Julie (Orosco) Anderson; brothers-in-law, Bobby (Aubrey) Anderson, and Micky (Delta) Anderson; sister-in-law, Mariah (Randall Brewster) Anderson; and many nephews and nieces.
Matt was preceded in death by his father, Duane; and grandparents, Robert and Jean (Curtis) Hamblen and Willes and Norene (Blacker) Blauer.
Matt’s dry sense of humor and kind heart will be missed by all.
The family would like to thank the ICU RN nurses for their dedication and loving care for 48 hours.
