TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Election Day is less than a week away here in the Gem State and over at the College of Southern Idaho’s Herrett Center, Twin Falls County hosted day two of poll worker training.

The poll worker training over the past few days included workers from all polling places in Twin Falls County from Hollister to Buhl and everywhere in between.

Poll workers’ jobs are essential in maintaining safe and secure elections here in Idaho and across the country, so much so that all polling place workers must attend a training session to work on Election Day.

Twin Falls County Clerk Kristina Glascock detailed what these volunteers work on at the training session.

“Poll workers are required to attend a training and we go through what they will be doing from the time they show up at 7:00 a.m. to set up their polling place to once the polls open what they need to do, how to run the equipment, how to check in voters. What they need to do to close up their polling place and get the ballots back to County West where we actually count them there,” said Glascock.

One poll worker spoke about why he decided to volunteer to work this job on Election Day.

“I was in the Marines in Iraq and that kind of left me with a desire to get to understand politics. So, when I was in college I ended up studying political science, got my master’s in it, and then later on ended up moving out to Twin Falls and then started finding ways to get involved and that led me to this,” said Samuel Reeder, a poll worker volunteer and Marine veteran.

In terms of voting deadlines, early voting ends Friday at 5:00 p.m. and absentee voters are encouraged to send in those ballots by the end of the day on Wednesday to have them in the right hands by 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
