TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — The campaign trail is heating up ahead of the May primaries and here in Twin Falls there was a prime opportunity to hear where each legislative candidate stand on some of the state’s top issues.

The College of Southern Idaho’s political science department put on an event known as the legislative candidate forum at the Herrett Center on campus.

All candidates running for office in Districts 24, 25 and 26 were invited to come down and talk on legislation that was either passed this session or last, many of which were hot-button issues here in the Gem State like summer lunches for kids and material allowed in libraries.

Every single incumbent has a challenger in these districts as well so that made an event like this even more important for the public to get to know who is running.

A CSI political science student spoke on hosting the event.

“What’s beautiful is it wasn’t just us [the students] who felt the need [to host the event]. Actually, our president here at the college gave us a little bit of a push and said he would be willing to support us in this because you know it is important. It’s a big primary that’s coming up that could really dictate the future of college education, so we thought it was a relevant time and something good at hand to have,” said Dylan Ray, the CSI Student Body President, and a poli-sci major.

All but two candidates were able to attend in-person to share their views on these issues and the ones who weren’t there offered written remarks which were read by CSI political science students.
