TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — The candidate filing period opens Monday, March 4, for those who are interested in having their name on the May primary ballot; this applies for any local, county or state offices.

In Twin Falls County, it means the Twin Falls County Commissioner seats, County Sheriff seat, The County Coroner, County prosecutor, and precinct committee person seats.

Kristina Glascock, the Twin Falls County Clerk says there is some confusion regarding the upcoming May primary.

This past weekend was the republican caucus, where Donald Trump won.

In May, the Democratic Party will caucus for president; also in May will be the primary, which is separate from the caucus.

“You won’t see the president on your ballot in the May primary, but you’ll see all of the other constitutional officers, legislators, county positions, you will see those on your May ballot, the democratic party is going to caucus for the presidential candidate after the May primary, and then in November, the president will be on the November ballot,” said Kristina Glascock, Twin Falls County Clerk.

There are also some important deadlines to remember regarding party affiliation.

“If you are affiliated with a party, and it’s a closed primary for all the parties except for the democrats, depending on what ballot you want, will be determined on your party affiliation, and you can only change your affiliation by March 15th of this year, unaffiliated voters can change and affiliate on election day or during early voting,” said Glascock.

All of the information can be found on your County website via the County Clerk.

The primary is May 21, the democratic caucus is May 23.

The candidate filing period opened Monday, March 4, and closes on March 15 at 5:00 p.m., and can be done via your county clerk.
