Idaho’s Secretary of State talks about SCOTUS decision
BOISE, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Idaho was one of the states to file the Amicus Brief with the Supreme Court, and Idaho Secretary of State Phil McGrane was in attendance during the oral arguments regarding Colorado’s decision to keep the former president off of the states presidential primary ballot.
One of the things the states were seeking is clarity and a resolution that would be enforced across the nation. The Gem State didn’t have the primary ballot issue because Idaho Republicans held their firehouse caucuses over the weekend. The earliest the question would’ve come up for the Gem State would be in August, but McGrane felt that the overall impact of the decision was important to the state.
“Idaho’s really not at the forefront but it was very important for our state to weigh in because the election impacts all of us. The one thing that is really unique about the presidency, it’s the only office that crosses state boundaries. Every other office, United States senate, congress, all contained within each of the 50 states. This is the only question that applies to everyone,” says McGrane.
He’s expecting this election to have possibly recording breaking turnout.
Secretary McGrane says he is happy with the decision, especially since it was unanimous, and believes it was correct to ensure the people get to vote for the candidate of their choice.
