WASHINGTON D.C. (KMVT/KSVT) — On Monday, President Donald Trump signed an executive order stopping the Lava Ridge Wind Project.

The executive order was written by Idaho Senator Jim Risch in partnership with the Trump Administration.

The 231 wind turbines were slated to be built on 992 acres within a 38,535 acre area of BLM-managed lands in Jerome, Lincoln and Minidoka counties.

According to the Bureau of Land Management, the Lava Ridge Wind Project could power as many as 500,000 homes with clean energy.

But the project faced immense opposition, including from the Minidoka Historic Site.

The order temporarily withdraws new or renewed wind leasing from the outer continental shelf.
