Pardons for Peach and Blossom
President Joe Biden continues turkey pardon tradition
WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - Two lucky turkeys were spared from being somebody’s Thanksgiving dinner, thanks to a presidential pardon from President Joe Biden.
Using his presidential pardon authority, on Monday President Biden saved two lucky turkeys from ending up as part of someone’s Thanksgiving dinner.
It’s an annual White House tradition begun by George H.W. Bush, but some say actually dates all the way back to Abraham Lincoln. Monday in his final Thanksgiving in the White House issued “Presidential Pardons” to two turkeys from Minnesota.
“Well, fellas, your prayer is going to be answered today. Based on your temperament and commitment to being productive members of society, I hereby pardon Peach and Blossom.”
Biden told an estimated 2,500 people on the South Lawn that the two turkeys live by two a simple motto, to, “keep calm and gobble on.”
In his final Thanksgiving as President, Biden also had a message for the millions of Americans set to gather with family and friends, “so, happy Thanksgiving, America. God bless you all. And may God protect our troops.”
Peach and Blossom will now get to live out the remainder of their lives as “agricultural ambassadors” at FarmAmerica in Minnesota. The Bidens, meanwhile, are set to celebrate their Thanksgiving in Nantucket, Massachusetts.
