Harris responds to allegations about Donald Trump
Trump’s former chief of staff spoke out to the New York Times
WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - Donald Trump’s longest-serving Chief of Staff John Kelly is highly critical of the former president and that’s getting a strong reaction from Vice President Harris.
In a published interview with the New York Times, retired Marine Corps General John Kelly said that based on his experience, Trump met the definition of a “fascist.”
Kelly told the New York times, “Certainly the former president is in the far-right area, he’s certainly an authoritarian, admires people who are dictators — he has said that. So he certainly falls into the general definition of fascist, for sure.”
He also claimed that the former president spoke positively - on more than one occasion - of Adolph Hitler.
That led to this strong response from Vice President Kamala Harris.
“He said he wanted generals like Adolf Hitler had. Donald Trump said that because he does not want a military that is loyal to the United States Constitution, he wants a military that is loyal to him. He wants a military who will be loyal to him personally, one that will obey his orders even when he tells them to break the law or abandon their oath to the Constitution of the United States.”
Kelly has previously claimed that Trump called members of the military who were injured or killed “losers or suckers” - a claim denied by the former president. Vice President Kamala Harris asked this rhetorical question, “So the bottom line is this: We know what Donald Trump wants. He wants unchecked power. The question in 13 days will be, what do the American people want?”
The Trump campaign fired back in a statement from spokesman Steven Cheung, saying, “John Kelly has totally beclowned himself with these debunked stories he has fabricated because he failed to serve his president well while working as chief of staff”
With Election Day approaching, Kelly’s claims are clearly aimed at influencing undecided voters who may be on the fence about giving Trump another 4-year term.
