LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN/Gray News) - Police say a domestic violence situation turned deadly in a Nebraska neighborhood this week.

According to the Lincoln Police Department, 21-year-old Michelle Gonzalez was shot and killed Wednesday by a man she had filed a protection order against just hours prior.

Officers said they were called to a neighborhood that day around 12:30 p.m. for a reported domestic disturbance.

Two women told police that they saw a woman, later identified as Gonzalez, get hit by a black vehicle.

The women said they stepped in to help Gonzalez and took her into their car, but the man who had hit her decided to follow them.

The man, later identified as 28-year-old Ibrahim Alhamadani, ended up crashing into the car that was carrying Gonzalez.

Police said the collision spun the vehicles out, but Alhamadani was able to get out and approached Gonzalez’s side of the car armed with a gun.

Alhamadani shot Gonzalez multiple times, striking her in the head, chest and abdomen before turning the gun on himself.

Lincoln Police Chief Michon Morrow said that first responders found Alhamadani dead at the scene with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Gonzalez was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, where she died later that evening.

Hours before the incident, Lincoln police said Gonzalez had filed a protection order against Alhamadani, and the protection order was approved.

Police said Gonzalez wrote that Alhamadani had assaulted her earlier Wednesday morning, beating her with a pistol while intoxicated.

Police said the protection order had yet to be served to Alhamadani, and it’s unclear how the two came into contact in the moments leading up to the shooting.

“There is a gap in time that is very small — that is probably around two hours or less of when we know she was OK and there was a safety plan that had been created — to when we had what happened," Morrow said.

The protection order also listed two other recent incidents of domestic violence.

Morrow said the investigation remains ongoing.

According to police records, Alhamadani had two previous protection orders filed against him by two separate women. He also served time in both prison and jail for domestic violence charges.

At the time of Wednesday’s shooting, Alhamadani was out on parole for a previous domestic violence case.
