Man arrested for killing wife of 30 years after pleading for help to find her, police say

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY/Gray Media) - Police in Alabama say a man admitted to choking his wife to death in an altercation over the weekend.

Dothan police Lt. Ronald Hall said the reported altercation turned physical late Saturday night between Stephen Miller and his wife, Gloria Miller.

According to investigators, Stephen Miller put his hands around his wife’s throat that night and suffocated the life out of her.

Authorities said he loaded Gloria Miller’s body into the bed of his pickup truck and dumped her body in a creek several miles away in Geneva County.

Dothan police said Stephen Miller first reported his wife as a missing person, but as they listened to his accounts of what happened, they became increasingly suspicious.

“He basically knew his [claims] were not adding up, and he basically knew that he had no choice [but to confess],” Hall said.

Stephen Miller portrayed himself as a man desperately looking for his wife of over 30 years after reporting her missing. Local media outlets said he contacted them begging to share her photo.

However, investigators said his story was just not adding up. He eventually caved and admitted he killed her.

The couple had a history of domestic issues, with both filing complaints against the other.

“There’s a helpline for domestic violence, and you can always call [police],” Hall said.

The lieutenant praised officers for their relentless efforts to solve the case.

“We had investigators all over the place,” he said.

Stephen Miller has been charged with murder and was booked into jail on a $1.5 million bond.
