2 charged after woman dies after being hit by stray bullet at bar job
ATLANTA (WANF/Gray News) - Two people have been charged in connection with the death of a woman who was hit by a stray bullet while working at her bar job.
Tsion Clayton, 23, and Kimone Green, 21, have been charged with malice murder in the 2023 death of Brianna Long, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced.
Long died on Oct. 29, 2023, after being hit by a stray bullet in Remerton, which is in Lowndes County.
Long worked at The Pier Bar and was closing down for the night at about 2:30 a.m. when a shooting happened outside the bar, during which she and another man were hurt.
The man survived. However, Long succumbed to her injuries.
The GBI said Clayton and Green were looking for another person in an ongoing gang dispute when the shooting occurred. Long and the other victim were innocent bystanders.
According to the GBI, Clayton and Green are already in custody for “separate, unrelated cases.”
The two are among seven people charged in a 44-count racketeering indictment, Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr announced on Thursday. The indictment accuses the suspects of being involved in a Valdosta-based gang called 528, leading to crimes like murder, robbery, assault and more.
“Most of the murders that have recently occurred in Valdosta over the past couple of years have been gang-related,” Southern Judicial Circuit District Attorney Bradfield M. Shealy said in a statement. “This gang violence has resulted in a number of deaths, including Brianna Long. Gang violence does not just affect gang members but also innocent members of our community.”
The five other suspects involved in the indictment include 20-year-old Jaquan Walton, 36-year-old Alex Parrish, 21-year-old Travis White, 20-year-old Antoine Taylor and 24-year-old Cedric Jordan.
Walton also faces murder charges for his alleged involvement in the shooting death of 21-year-old Jaylon Smith in Valdosta in June 2023.
Lowndes County is a little over three hours south of Atlanta.
