Dog abandoned outside grocery store with note begging for help: ‘Take me home’
KENT COUNTY, Mich. (Gray News) - Staff at a Michigan animal shelter hope to find a loving home for a dog who was abandoned in a grocery store parking lot with a note tied to her collar that read, “Please help me.”
The dog, whose name is Rukey, was brought to the Kent County Animal Shelter by a group of people who found her in a Meijer parking lot last Thursday. She had a handwritten note tied to her collar that read, “My name is Rukey. Please help me. Take me home.”
Angela Hollinshead, the director of the animal shelter, describes Rukey as “sweet and “gentle.” She says staff will make sure the dog “finds a wonderful, loving family.”

She directly addressed the person who left Rukey in a post on the animal shelter’s Facebook page.
“We can only imagine how difficult this choice was for you, and we sincerely hope you find brighter days ahead,” she wrote.
Hollinshead also reminded the community that help is available for those struggling to feed themselves or their pets and to reach out as needed.
“Our goal is to keep pets and families together, and we will do everything we can to provide resources to support and preserve the human-animal bond,” she wrote.
Hollinshead says people will be able to find updates about Rukey on Facebook.
