(Gray News) – Karen Huger, star of “Real Housewives of Potomac,” was sentenced to two years in prison, with one year suspended, for DUI, according to officials.

Huger learned of her sentencing from Judge Terrence McGann during a hearing in a Montgomery County Circuit Court in Maryland Wednesday.

She has 30 days to file an appeal and 90 days to ask the judge to reconsider his decision, according to The Baltimore Banner.

“I understand better the brutal clarity of the fact that when you’re behind a car driving you’re not just driving for yourself,” Huger reportedly told the judge. “It’s my responsibility to make sure that my community members make it where they need to be safely.”

McGann also pointed out that Huger has faced four driving violations since 2006.

Huger’s attorney David Martella said the “Grande Dame of Potomac” has come to accept her sentencing.

“At the end of the proceeding Karen Huger told me she is at peace with this,” he said. ”She is glad that this part of the process is over. She has been working very hard on her recovery for the past few months and that has allowed her to be the healthiest that she has been in years and she told me she is fully prepared to get though this. And she will get through this and she looks forward to a brighter day very soon.”

Huger was arrested in March 2024 after she was involved in a single-vehicle crash and was found guilty in December of that year of five out of six charges.

Some of these charges include:

  • Driving under the influence
  • Negligent driving
  • Failure to control speed
  • Failure to notify authorities of an address change

She has also been ordered to pay $3,000 in fines for the incident.

According to PEOPLE, Huger told her husband, “You will be alright,” and, “God’s got you,” while she was being taken into custody.

It’s not clear whether Huger will make a return to the “Real Housewives of Potomac” show.
