Officer shot and killed in the line of duty

LAS VEGAS (KVVU/Gray News) - An officer in the Las Vegas area has died after he was shot in the line of duty.

According to the North Las Vegas Police Department, the officer, later identified as 46-year-old Jason Roscow, responded to reports of someone armed with a handgun Tuesday afternoon.

Roscow found the suspect and issued commands. Police said the suspect then approached the officer, and gunfire was exchanged between the two.

The 46-year-old officer was shot multiple times and was taken to a hospital, according to officials.

Despite life-saving efforts, Roscow died.

“It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of one of North Las Vegas’ finest,” Chief of Police Jacqueline Gravatt said. “Police officers choose this line of work because they want to protect and serve the community, knowing the risks and challenges that come with the badge. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the officer’s family, friends and his brotherhood in blue.”

The suspect was also taken to the hospital where they later died.

“Please join me in praying for this officer and their family,” Governor Joe Lombardo said in a post on X.

The North Las Vegas Police Department also shared a statement on social media.

“It is with profound sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the loss of one of our own, who was killed in the line of duty today,” the statement reads. “We extend our deepest condolences to their family, friends, and colleagues. This tragic loss is a solemn reminder of the dedication and bravery of those who serve and protect our community. We ask for thoughts and prayers for the family and everyone impacted during this difficult time.”

Roscow began working with the department in 2007. He worked in various divisions of the department including Traffic and Patrol Operations.

Officials said the fallen officer was recognized with the Exemplary Service Award.

According to the North Las Vegas Police Department, this is its first officer-involved shooting of 2025.
