Pearson, Steven Carmen
January 27, 2025, Age 79
BURLEY, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Our devoted husband, brother, father, grandfather, and friend has left us to be with his Heavenly Father.
Steven Carmen Pearson passed away on January 27, 2025, after suffering from a prolonged, unknown illness.
Steve was born on August 14, 1946, to Carmen and Beth Pearson in Ogden, Utah. His blonde, curly hair made him such a handsome baby. He spent the first few years of life in West Point, Utah on the farm. In 1955, his family moved to Burley, Idaho, where his parents bought another larger farm to better support the family.
He was active in the Scouting program and became an Eagle Scout. He graduated from Burley High School in 1964, and went to Utah State University where he spent a year prior to serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the California South Mission.
After his mission he spent a year at Ricks College and then matriculated to USU where he graduated with a BS degree in Animal Science with a minor in Ag Economics.
After college, he worked as a land surveyor with a local surveyor and soon was able to open his own business. It was called Deseret West Land Survey and was located in downtown Burley. He was a noted, successful businessman in the Southern Idaho region. He met many people through his work and treated his clients with respect, honesty, and integrity. He operated this business until his retirement in 2012.
Shortly after retirement, he began driving vehicles for Bonanza Motor/Young Automotive and thoroughly enjoyed driving, along with meeting new people and seeing new places.
During his career, he served his community as a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Land Surveyors and on the Burley Planning and Zoning Commission. He was an alternate member of the Southern Idaho Resource Planning and Development Association and President of the Magic Valley Section of the Association of Land Surveyors.
Steve was very creative and spent time in his shop making all kinds of things for his home, yard, and business. He was talented at wood and metal working. He could fix most anything.
In 1978, he met Joanne Fox at a church single-adult program. They were good friends for two years and began seriously dating which resulted in their marriage on Feb 6, 1980, in the Logan Utah Temple.
He was a faithful and dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings with dependability and conviction. He served as Bishop of the Burley 5th Ward and was very devoted to his ward members. He truly acquired the qualities of a faithful latter-day saint.
He and Joanne became temple workers in the Twin Falls Temple. They served for many years and the highlight of their service was meeting and helping the patrons. When Ryan, his brother, and wife, Jackie, left on their mission, Ryan had been the guardian for our handicapped sister, Laura Lee. Steve gladly began overseeing her care as her guardian and did so until she passed away. He has always been caring and gentle to her.
Music was very important to him. He played the trumpet in Jr. High, sang in the ward choir throughout his life and taught himself to play the harmonica which he played while riding in the car, sitting around the campfire, and at several funerals, We all loved to hear his cowboy poetry. He had memorized many poems and could recite a fun poem anytime. He loved to make people laugh, and his fun quips kept things on the light side.
He took his family camping in their trailer and enjoyed being in charge of his specialty– dutch oven cooking.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne; two sons, Alex (LaChelle), and Scott; and a daughter, Stephanie (Tim); plus three grandsons, Ethan, Ezekiel, and Brock; eight granddaughters, Brenna (Scott), Shelby (Presley), Shayla, Danika, Delilah, Eden, McCall, and Natalia; and three great-grandchildren, Brixton, Paris, and Capri. He is also survived by his sister, Ann Marie; and two brothers, Ryan and Calvin (Heidi); plus many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; sister (Laura Lee); and a sister-in-law (Jackie).
