Multiple Magic Valley teams advance to consolation finals on Saturday

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — While four teams were knocked out of championship contention on Thursday, they still had a chance to reach Saturday for the consolation finals.

Throughout the early slate on Friday, the Jerome Tigers (5A) and Kimberly Bulldogs (4A) did just that.

The Dietrich Blue Devils also advanced to the final in the later slate on Friday night.

5A

Jerome 50, Sandpoint 35

The Tigers advance to the consolation finals with the win over Sandpoint. Jensen cCook exploded for 24 points while grabbing nine rebounds in the win. Sawyer Garrard added seven in the win.

Jerome shot nearly 40 percent in the win. They will play Skyline in the consolation finals on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Mountain View High School.

4A

Kimberly 62, Gooding 41

The Bulldogs beat Gooding for the fourth time this season and advance to the consolation finals.

Kimberly forced 20 turnovers in the win as sophomore Taya Plew and freshman Brooklyn VerWey led the charge with four steals each.

Even scoring from Kimberly with five players in double figures. Plew had a team high 14 points followed by Berkley Dille with 12.

Both VerWey and Hope Ward scored 11. Ady Osborne added 10.

Gooding senior Fallon Millican closed her high school career with an impressive double-double. She had a game-high 18 points along with 10 rebounds.

Freshman Olivia Rogers scored nine and had a game-high 15 rebounds.

Kimberly will play McCall-Donnelly in the consolation final Saturday at Meridian High School at 10:00 a.m.

1A

Dietrich 51, Nezperce 40

The Blue Devils are heading to the consolation final behind Kaitlyn Wannamaker’s 22 points. She shot 7/12 from the floor.

Paje Van Tassell scored 11 and was a perfect 7/7 from the free-throw line.

Dietrich will play Challis in the consolation finals on Saturday morning at 10:00 at Nampa High School.
