Declo boys’ basketball suffers first loss to Soda Springs, Wendell boys book ticket to 3A state tournament

DECLO, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Drama in Declo on Tuesday night.

The No.1 undefeated boys basketball team suffered its first loss, and it couldn’t come at a worse time.

The No. 4 seed in the South East Idaho Conference Tournament, Soda Springs traveled to Delco and took down previously unbeaten Declo 48-44.

Carter Robertson had a team-high 18 points for the Hornets in the loss.

Despite starting the game on a 9-2 run, the Hornets trailed 16-9 after a quarter.

From there, Soda Springs didn’t take its foot off the gas, nailing shots left and right.

The Cardinals were led by Gavin Hansen who had a game-high 19 points.

Soda Springs would lead by as many as 13 before Declo made it a two-possession game late in the fourth quarter.

Despite being right there, it wasn’t meant to be for the Hornets Tuesday night.

With the win, Soda Springs earns an automatic bid to the state tournmant as well as playing for the district title.

Declo falls to a consolation game and hosts No. 6 Aberdeen on Thursday.

West Side lost to Wendell 60-57 on Tuesday night as the Trojans booked its ticket to the state tournament as well as the district championship.

3A Southeast Idaho Conference

  • Wendell earns a spot to the state tournament with the win.
  • The Trojans will play No. 4 Soda Springs in the District Tournament on Feb. 25. Time and location TBD.

1A Sawtooth Conference

No. 3 Camas County 63, No. 6 Castleford 39

  • Camas County advances to the semi-finals and will play No. 2 Carey on Wednesday. Tip-off from Dietrich High School for 7:30.
  • Castleford will play the loser of Dietrich and Richfield.

No. 5 Richfield 57, No. 4 Hansen 48

  • Richfield advances to the semi-finals and will take on No. 1 Dietrich on Wednesday. Tipoff set from Dietrich set for 6:00.
  • Hansen will play the loser of Carey and Camas County
