Dietrich Lady Blue Devils eye elusive state championship
Dietrich may have three-peated as 1A Sawtooth District Champions, but they know the real test lies ahead in the big dance.
DIETRICH, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — The Dietrich Blue Devils want it all.
Dietrich may have three-peated as 1A Sawtooth District Champions, but they know the real test lies ahead in the big dance.
The Blue Devils are far too familiar with heartbreak in the tournament, losing back-to-back years in the state title games.
Dietrich lost to Council 52-42 in the 2022-2023 season, then fell to Kendrick 55-53 in overtime a season ago.
The Blue Devils have the experience and skill set to get it done in 2025.
“We’ve been working for it. They’ve (the opposition) seen us play there two times. We want to get back there, and we want to win this time,” senior guard Aleigha Robertson told KMVT after the 1A Sawtooth Championship game. “We’re going in with the mentality of we’ve gotten here, and we’re not going to end here.”
Dietrich beat Carey 42-24 on Feb. 10 to claim its third straight district title.
The Blue Devils earned the No. 4 seed at state, while Carey will be No. 2 after a state play-in win.
“We know what we’re doing, so hopefully, we can get it done,” senior Paje Vantassel said. “This team is really good, and we can go do it this year.”
Dietrich will square off with No. 5 Salmon River in the tournament’s first round on Thursday.
Tip-off is set for 7:00 from Nampa High School.
