Filled with heart and resiliency; Oakley Lady Hornets heading to 2A Championship
NAMPA, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Seven teams entered the weekend with the goal of bringing home a state championship at the Idaho High School Girl’s Basketball Tournaments.
One team will get the opportunity come Saturday.
The No. 1 Oakley Hornets are heading back to the state championship after beating No. 5 Lapwai 56-47.
After Oakley jumped out to a lead at half, Lapwai would battle back down seven and take a two-possession lead in the third quarter.
The veteran Oakley team relied on their resiliency and chemistry and battled back to take the lead and wouldn’t let up for the win.
“It shows that we really have the heart and we really love to play this game and we love to play with each other,” senior guard Dakota Wadsworth told KMVT. “We love being with each other and playing through all the hard things.”
Dakota Wadsworth had the game of her life as she exploded for 20 points to lead the Hornets. She knocked down four three-pointers.
Adelyn Maseda had a monster game with a double-double of 16 points and 17 rebounds.
The Hornets out-rebounded Lapwai 48-31 on the way to a win.
Now onto the title game, they will rely on their defensive efforts to power through.
We do what Oakley’s done all year long and we play defense,” head coach Kristin Jones told KMVT. “Defense is what we do and that’s how we win ball games.“
Oakley will take on Prairie in the 2A championship at 11:30 on Saturday morning at the Ford Idaho Center.
