About Us

We are KMVT, Your Hometown Station. As the area’s only full powered television station, KMVT delivers more local news to the Magic Valley than any other media in our market. As your Hometown Station, we are committed to bringing you the news, weather, and sports from all our hometowns across Southern Idaho. At KMVT, we are always looking for ways to grow and improve. To this end we have recently expanded our Sports coverage to include Friday Night Blitz. This special segment in our news allows us to bring our viewers even more coverage of area Highschool teams and their journey towards state championships. On the weather front, we are committed to providing our viewers with crucial information as they make their way across our communities. And our strong news team is there to inform our viewers of local and national news that affects us all. KMVT, found on channel 11.1 is our primary station and is affiliated with CBS and carries all their hit prime and daytime entertainment. KSVT located on 14.1 is our FOX affiliation and the CW can be found on channel 11.2.

A Brief History of the Station…

KMVT’s television roots began In 1955 when KLIX Radio became KLIX Radio and TV. Then, upon the sale of KLIX Radio in 1962, KLIX became Magic Valley Television - KMVT. Television was moving ahead rapidly now, making more wide-spread technical improvements than any other media. At KMVT, plans were put into effect to incorporate these advances to the benefit of our viewers and advertisers.

In 1957, Abe Glasmann purchased the KLIX radio and TV stations and KUTV in Salt Lake City. In 1963, Glasmann later sold the radio station, which retained the call letters KLIX. He rechristened the TV station KMVT. “MVT” stood for “Magic Valley Television”, reflecting the area’s nickname of “Magic Valley”.

In 1965, KMVT became the first television station in Idaho to broadcast local programs in color.

Arthur Mosby and his Western Broadcasting Company of Missoula, Montana, which operated KMSO-TV (now KECI-TV) in Missoula, acquired KMVT in 1970. In 1984, control of the station was transferred to the Chapman S. Root 1982 Living Trust. The Catamount Broadcast Group acquired the station in 1998 and sold it to the Neuhoff family in 2004.

In September 2006, KMVT began carrying The CW on its DT2 subchannel, which was also seen on KTWT-LP (channel 43); in 2012, KTWT switched to MyNetworkTV (with CW programming remaining on the KMVT subchannel), then (after converting to digital operations on channel 14) to FOX In 2014, KTWT became KSVT-LD.

On March 12, 2015, Neuhoff Communications announced the sale of KMVT and KSVT to Gray Television with the sale being completed on July 1 of that same year.

Throughout the history of KMVT we have seen a lot of changes in both technology and the faces behind the cameras. But one thing is for certain, KMVT is and will continue to be your hometown station.
