After a surprising, and thrilling run through the state soccer playoffs the last week or so, the Buhl Indians girls soccer team took on Sugar-Salem in the 4A state championship game on Saturday.

The fifth-seed in 4A girls soccer, the Bliss Bears, traveled to Wendell to take on the fourth-seeded Trojans in the opening round of the 4A girls district soccer tournament and thanks to two goals from the boot of Morgan Notman, the Bears claimed a 3-1 upset win and ended Wendell’s season for the second straight year.
An exciting soccer game between some of the top teams in the 4A High Desert Conference on Monday as the Buhl Indians girls team (8-3-2, 7-2-2) hosted the Kimberly Bulldogs (9-4-0, 8-3-0).
The Wood River Wolverines boys soccer team entered Saturday with only one loss, their opponents, the Century Diamondbacks, entered the game undefeated, and in a battle of two 4A soccer heavyweights Wood River prevailed 5-3.
The Wendell Trojans boys soccer team defeated Filer 5-1 in a road contest, while the Buhl Indians girls soccer team took down the Bliss Bears in shutout fashion, 4-0.
Senior captain Santiago ‘Santi’ Perez scored the lone goal in the first half off a corner kick by senior Isaias ‘Yaya’ Hernandez to give the Bulldogs the win.
Sophomore Ethan Huerta scored a hat-trick for the Wildcats, while senior Teagan Easterday and sophomore Mmunga Elengwa scored two each. Freshman Josia Ortiz and sophomore Aydyn Burns also added a goal each.
For Conrad, she was a standout player for the Riverhawks (12-7-2) in the fall, helping lead Canyon Ridge as Great Basin Conference runners-up, and a state tournament appearance.

Saturday marked the final day of the 2023 Idaho State soccer season and Middleton High School was the site of the 3A and 4A boys and girls championship matches.
After Saturday’s action the Idaho State Soccer Tournament fields are set for both boys and girls and the Magic and Wood River Valleys are sending nine teams to the dance.
