“Then & Now” Quilt exhibit at the Twin Falls Historical Society for a limited time
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) —There is no shortage of events happening at the Twin Falls Historical Society. For the second year in a row, the quilt show has returned to the museum. The theme for this year is the “Then & Now” quilt show. A part of this exhibit showcases not only the agricultural history of Southern Idaho but also the impact women had as well. “The product of the farmers is no longer here. It’s gone to people that have eaten the food all over the nation, but what we do have are things like quilts that have remained and tell the stories of the people that were here and what they were interested in doing, and what women did to contribute to the agricultural efforts of this community,” Board Member of the Twin Falls Historical Society Jane Anderson explained.
Another aspect of the “Then & Now” is showcasing how different styles of quilting evolved and changed over time. “It shows the change in culture and what we emphasized, what kind of fabrics were used, what colors were popular,” Ms. Anderson said. One of the notable quilts at the exhibit is the Centennial Quilt which was made to highlight Idaho history in the embroidery. “So, the very talented ladies that made it, they used a lot of kind of the iconic things from Twin Falls in its history. So, we have the Shrine Bridge going across there and have the falls. There’s the Twin Falls County Courthouse, there’s some Bisbee pictures in there,” Administrator at the Twin Falls Historical Society Museum Ashely Haycock said.
That’s not the only event going on at the museum. On Saturday, July 20 the historical society will host the “Union School Reunion” which will bring together all the former alums from the former Elementary school. “The farmers in the neighborhood built it, paid for the teachers, and made sure that their children would have an education. I think that needs to be exalted because one of the things that we do here at the museum is to preserve history, and I think the history of Union school is very important, I know it’s affected my life,” Board Member of the Twin Falls Historical Society Karen Hirai Olen said.
If you do attend there will be food and drink available, payment is not required but a donation to the museum is always appreciated. The museum is open from 12:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. during the summer, Tuesday through Saturday. The Reunion will get underway starting at noon and will end at 4:00 P.M.
