Salute to Idaho Agriculture: Saving the Lincoln County Farmer’s Market
SHOSHONE, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — We are nearing farmer’s market season in the Magic and Wood River Valleys and in this week’s Salute to Idaho Agriculture, we are focusing on the Lincoln County Farmers Market, where some residents formed an organization to save their beloved summer attraction.
The Lincoln County Farmers Market has been a staple on the lawn of the Shoshone Courthouse for many years.
In the past, the market was run by Payson Reese of the city’s chamber of commerce, but unfortunately, Reese passed away in August, leaving the future of the market uncertain.
However, some citizens of Lincoln County banded together to form an organization known as the Lincoln County Farmer’s Market Association in order to save the farmers market for future generations.
The organization’s president spoke about its growth during its early days.
“Our association has about 20 members in it, we’re still kind of in the beginning of getting things up and running. But we have a board made up of five people and more people are joining every day,” said President Zackary Wood.
“It’s not only open to farmers and craftsmen and artisans, even just local citizens in Lincoln County that want to help or want to just participate and have a voice in how the market is ran [can join].”
Lincoln County is a very supportive community, especially when it comes to their local events, and in part due to the efforts of this organization the farmers market will be returning for another year, and the first weekend of it is just in time for you to grab some last-minute gifts for mom!
“Our kick-off event for the year is going to be on May 10, the Friday before Mother’s Day from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Shoshone Courthouse Lawn, that’s where it’s always been, right there in the middle of Shoshone,” Wood said.
“We’re kind of hoping to have a Mother’s Day themed kickoff event, so there’s going to be some flower vendors, some candles and any kind of other things we can get like that.”
If you are a vendor that is interested in setting up a booth at the Lincoln County Farmer’s Market, even if it’s just one time, you can reach out to the organization via their website: https://lincolncofarmersmarket.com/market-info/
