TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — The last semester of high school can be a mixed bag of emotions for high school students. But regardless of how you may feel this time does not come back and enjoying it is the focus of this week’s mental health minute.

While graduation is an exciting time, there’s also a lot of uncertainty and even fear that can arise regarding the future as many will be moving away from lifelong friends as well as family members for the first time.

That’s why no matter which emotions you may be feeling regarding the end of this period of your life, they are all okay.

Twin Falls High School Counselor Christi Benson shares her advice for seniors on taking the final semester one step at a time.

“I think balance is very important. A lot of times students are in a hurry to get done, but I tell them this often too, you don’t get this time back so enjoy the time you have while you’re here, but prepare for the next step,” Benson said.

Even while preparing for that next step, it’s also important to live in the moment.

Wendell High School Counselor Kevin Conner reminds seniors that even though four months will go fast, take things one day at a time.

“The key is to relax and to let life flow. I mean life is what happens while we’re trying to make big plans and so you have to be able to enjoy every day even if you’re working toward the future,” Conner said.

If you are feeling overwhelmed about an upcoming graduation, remember to express your feelings to someone you trust and know there is support available inside and outside of school.
