GOODING, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Glanbia Nutritionals plays a significant role in Idaho’s dairy industry.

“It starts with what your purpose is, and our purpose as an organization is to deliver better nutrition for every step of life’s journey,” said Wilf Costello, Chief Commercial and Marketing Officer for Glanbia Nutritionals.

Glanbia Nutritionals is a company based in Ireland, but the business has been here in the Magic Valley for over 30 years. Glanbia produces products such as cheese and nutritional ingredients for several different companies.

Costello discussed why the Magic Valley is an excellent spot for this business.

“Think about the dairy industry and agriculture in Idaho,” Costello said. “We start with a great milk pool, and we got several great patrons that supply us quality milk.”

An excellent milk pool also requires great farmers. Lael Schoessler, owner of No View Dairy, explained how dairy impacts Idaho’s agriculture industry.

“It also supports the broader ag economy,” Schoessler said. “It diversifies what farmers are allowed to grow. It’s not just crops for human consumption, there’s a ton of alfalfa and corn silage production locally as well.”

The dairy industry in Idaho is also one of the top producers in the country, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

“Whether it’s the Department of Ag or IDA, they’re all so supportive of the industry, and we will continue to grow the dairy industry,” Costello said. “We’ll use and process over 25% of the milk in Idaho and, as a state, Idaho is the third largest dairy state in the U.S.”

For Glanbia, establishing roots in the Magic Valley also means getting involved.

“We were part of the Lola Project that our friends at Chobani helped sponsor for the food insecure in the region,” Costello said. “So it’s great to be part of those types of initiatives as well. It’s about agriculture but it’s about community and where you live, and we are proud to be part of it.”
