BURLEY, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — The Sugar Beet Conference is an annual event highlighting an important cash crop in Idaho, the sugar beet. Albert Adjesiwor, an assistant professor of plant sciences at the University of Idaho, helped plan this year’s conference.

“They’re very important. We grow a lot of sugar beets in the state that contribute millions of dollars to our economy”. Conferences like these provide an opportunity for farmers to network, while also discussing their struggles and successes over the past growing season.

“So this is the first conference where we are able to share all the new things that are new information that we got from this season and so they get updates on things that they have seen this year if you have growing and you know your neighbor has an issue this year that something you want to also look for it too” With the conference occurring every year after harvest, Adjesiwor says the success depends heavily on Idaho farmers taking part.

“This is something that we do, so people look forward to it, and in the future, I would always send you guys an event to put into their calendar, it’s a great event if you are involved in sugar beet production”.
