SUN VALLEY, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) —

“The potato industry is very friendly, and this is kind of our family reunion”

Shawn Boyle is the president and general counsel of the Idaho Grower and Shippers association.

He says the industry’s annual conference is a significant event that dates back to 1928 evolving from its original venues in Boise and Idaho Falls to its current home in Sun Valley.

“It brings together individuals from the potato industry, from the fresh potato industry, processors, dehydrators, organizations that sell products to the industry, so it’s just kind of meeting place for the Idaho potato industry every year that people love to come.”

The event provides educational seminars, networking opportunities and a chance to enjoy the beauty of Sun Valley.

Governor Brad Little highlighted the conference’s significance to Idaho’s potato industry.

”Well I come every year, this is such a big part of Idaho, this is where we add all the value to particularly the potato industry. So, the growers and shippers, the packers, the processors, they’re all here”

The Idaho Department of Agriculture also participates, looking to build their partnership with the state’s growers and shippers.

Chanel Tewalt says, “So it’s great for us to come and interact with everyone, but for me personally, I always try to come to this conference and understand what we can do at the Department of Agriculture better for the folks that we serve and interact one on one is how we do that”

As the industry grows, the conference remains a key fixture, strengthening connections and fostering progress within Idaho’s potato sector.
