Salute to Idaho Agriculture: Farmers Markets
August declared Idaho Farmers Market month
Ketchum, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Governor Brad Little proclaimed August as Idaho Farmers Market Month, recognizing the important role farmer markets have in Idaho.
As more people are wanting to know where their food is coming from, the market is a great way to purchase food directly from those who grow it.
We spoke with Chanel Tewalt, the director of Idaho State Department of Agriculture on the importance of this month.
“Agriculture continues to be Idaho’s, either their strongest or one of our strongest industries, it impacts every single corner of our state and it’s so important for us to recognize that.”
With over 55 farmers markets across the state, it has become a cornerstone to communities.
And now with fewer people directly involved in agriculture today, Farmers markets can be a great connection.
“Farmers market month is just a great time to celebrate local producers, farmers markets of course which are such a vital part of their communities and give back in countless ways and they’re also a culturally important part of communities too. And so this is a great celebratory time.”
With a variety of commodities, Idaho offers a great way to find almost everything you want. To find great fresh, and locally grown food near you, you can go to this website.
