TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — “The goal wasn’t to make money, or to even harvest the crop entirely, it was more for community”

The CSI agriculture program is trying something new for the first time this year with donated sunflower seed. The land was originally an alfalfa field, turned barren, after the completion of the fire station next door. The CSI farm team didn’t want this land to go to waste.

“We have had students who worked all summer on the CSI farm team… so we appreciate the farm team. A lot of this is because of them so their hard work, their dedication, long hours, has made this crop possible for the public”

It was also an added benefit to the agriculture program’s bee hives they own that have been hard at work in the field pollinating the flowers. For the students, the experience they gained has been a light in their path.

“It’s been a great internship, especially if you are studying agriculture, you learn a lot and you really get that hands-on experience, and it’s just a fantastic opportunity.“

Even though the field just opened, time is running out to catch these bright flowers before they are gone.

“So we opened it up to the public a few days ago, right now the sunflowers are probably on their end. They only bloom for about two weeks”

The public is allowed to grab up to six sunflower heads in the first five rows just south of Cheney drive until they are gone, which is sure to put a smile on one’s face.
