TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — In this week’s Salute to Idaho Agriculture, we are focusing on the little insects that make beautiful gardens and healthy plants possible as we take you to Tubbs Berry Farm for Bee Day 2024.

This past Saturday was Bee Day at the farm and people from all across Idaho and into bordering states came by the farm for their colony of bees.

Beekeeping supplies like pollen traps, and bee suits were also available for purchase.

Bees obviously pollinate plants which are essential for their growth, but just how involved are the insects when it comes to the food we consume?

“They say that two out of every three bites of food we eat is because of a honeybee, so bees are necessary for pollination of all of our fruit crops here on our farm, we couldn’t produce pumpkins or berries without honeybees,” said Kirk Tubbs, the owner of Tubbs Berry Farm. “So, a lot of people get bees for pollination, but bees are just fascinating insects too so it’s really fun to watch a colony and learn.”

Bees affect multiple aspects of our day to day lives whether we realize that or not, and for farmers, or those looking to try something new this summer bees provide a great way to boost your own plants, but also learn more about the conservation and care of this important species.
