TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Idaho’s next generation of farmers and agriculture professionals often get their start in programs like 4-H and FFA and from February 17-24 these students are celebrated during National FFA Week and that’s the focus of this week’s Salute to Idaho Agriculture.

As a state, Idaho has over 100 FFA chapters split into 10 districts consisting of over 6,150 members.

Three of these districts represent the Magic Valley, the North District covers everything from Wendell to Camas County.

The South District stretches from Castleford to Murtaugh, and the East District includes the Mini-Cassia Area, Oakley and Raft River.

Each magic valley district also holds a statewide officer position of which there are six total, and the titles include Vice President, Reporter and Sentinel.

A member of Jerome’s FFA chapter spoke about her program experience and a potential future in the industry.

“I definitely do see agriculture as a career path and I see agriculture as kind of a stepping stone for other areas, I mean there’s so much leadership that we learn because of the agriculture industry and FFA that it really helps me in all areas of my life, whether it’s giving presentations in school to helping in different clubs and organizations,” said Eliza Dugan, the South Magic Valley FFA District Secretary.

FFA is a great program for kids in 7th through 12th grade looking to expand their ag knowledge, or get a head start on developing skills that will help them as they grow up and head into the workforce.
