TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — A Twin Falls pastry shop and restaurant will allow you to taste the sweeter part of the Latino culture.

During the pandemic, a life-long dream turned into a reality for Jaime Contreras when he and his family opened Mia’s bakery in Twin Falls.

“He had storage units filled of this stuff because he said, ‘I’m going to start it one day,’ and I think that was the push they needed. So they ended up getting the bakery, opening it up and they’ve had it ever since,” Liz Garcia, from Mia’s Bakery, said.

Liz Garcia helps run Mia’s; she says it’s named after the owner’s daughter who they call a, “miracle child.”

“She’s the only daughter. They have three boys and one girl, so she’s the only girl,” Garcia explained.

The business is family-owned and operated, offering their specialties like Banderias and Puerquitos. Family is also at the center of all the recipes they use, baking history into every treat.

“A lot recipes have been passed down from his dad and these recipes area lot different in flavor and texture and everything and they’re made a little bit differently than most. I think of these little bits and pieces of his family go into the bread,” Garcia said.

Mia’s bakery doesn’t only sell some incredible baked goods like these but also some pretty amazing food.

“Tortas, sopes, tacos, burritos...basically all the basics,” Garcia lists.

Whether it’s your favorite Mexican dishes or treats, Garcia says it’s about more than just food, it’s also about sharing culture, “Sharing that with other people, so when they come in, they get bits and pieces of what the Latino culture is.”

Mia’s bakery is located at 360 Main Ave N, Twin Falls, ID 83301.
